Fractional work summary
I've been writing about the idea of fractional work for many years and first introduced the idea in my book in 2005 in the chapter The unit of work is no longer a whole job. To be honest it hasn't really caught on but here's a list of articles plotting the rise and rise of this new way of working.
Fractional work - The next small thing?

This presentation argues for the economic stimulus of an emerging form of work that has the potential to become the most dominant form of work within a generation.

***update on 4 March 2014***
Excited to hear about TaskQuad, a UK based intermediary that brings together producers and consumers of part time work, online and offline. They join Sooqini, PeoplePerHour and perhaps others I'm not aware of (in the UK) in creating what I've historically term fractional work platforms. A bit like eBay for work. In a Cluetrain kind of way these new platforms mean people are realising that they get much better support from each other than the institutions that are supposed to serve them, the so called rise of the Support Economy. Big Thank you Steve Moore for connecting me with Mary Mckenna and TaskQuad. Here's a collection of delicious bookmarks on fractional work platforms dating back to 2006. Many have disappeared and some have morphed or specialised.
Odesk and the new digital nomad movement
No one describes the concept of fractional work than Odesk, the world's leading platform for freelance work in what they are calling the digital nomad movement in this stunning new video.
